Homesick for a World Unknown

A conversation about the life and work of field biologist George B. Schaller
– with author Miriam Horn

Saturday, June 6
3:30pm to 5:30pm

  • Conversation, reading, multi-media presentation, Q&A in the theater (Ages 10+)
  • Concurrent workshop (Ages 6-9) in the Buckley Room
At the Randall Museum, we believe that exploring, discovering, and creating – in nature, through science, and across the arts – is how we come to understand ourselves and the world we share. It’s what brings our community together, and it’s what drives many extraordinary lives.

Come be inspired by the remarkable life and work of George B. Schaller, the world’s greatest living field biologist – profiled in Homesick for a World Unknown, a new book by Bay Area author and environmental advocate Miriam Horn.

A New York Times Editor’s Choice (April 30, 2026), the book traces Schaller’s life and work. The program will feature a conversation with Ms. Horn, a short reading, a multimedia journey through Schaller’s exceptional life and groundbreaking work with time for Q&A. Suitable for adults and children, ages 10+.

Running concurrently, we are offering a special In the Footsteps of a Conservationist: A Field Journal Workshop for 6 to 9 year olds.

Reservations: $5 per Randall Museum Member family (up to 5 people)
