Fun Family Activities at Randall Museum

Randall Museum is proud to host a number of family-friendly special events each year. Some fun family activities, such as Bug Day, Family Halloween Day, and Holiday Craft Day, are perennial favorites. Others, including special exhibit openings, take advantage of one-time opportunities to share something unique with our visitors. After the Grand Reopening in Fall 2017, look for special events that spotlight specific new spaces in the museum.

Adult volunteers are always welcome at our special events! Please visit our Volunteer page for more information or contact Nathan at (415) 554-9681 or nrobinson@randallmuseum.org.

Annual Events

Bug Day

Check out an incredible array of insects at the Randall Museum’s annual Bug Day, one of San Francisco’s best family activities. Do you adore arthropods, or do creepy crawlies make you queasy? Either way you’ll find something here to inspire your inner entomologist. Join in the insect-inspired fun and learn how important these little creatures are to the earth and our survival here. Kids and their families can make their own fabulous bug-related crafts to take home, see and touch live exotic insects, take a scientific look at insects through microscopes, compete in the Insect Olympics, and perhaps even EAT a bug or two.

Halloween Fest

Come in costume and join us for our annual Halloween celebration. The museum is transformed into a Halloween haunt with a gamut of fun family activities including ghoulish games, creepy crafts, tricks & treats, live entertainment, and more! Halloween revelers can explore the Twilight Forest, the Spooky Caboose, and Dr. Randallstein’s Laboratory… and can even take a stab at pumpkin carving! Free admission, musical entertainment, and free trick or treating; low cost games, food, crafts and magic show.

Holiday Craft Day

Ready to break the never-ending cycle of holiday shopping? Get crafty and MAKE presents and decorations for the winter holidays this year! Randall Museum dedicates a whole day to teaching kids and their families how to create one-of-a-kind hand-made gifts and items to decorate their homes that will brighten the holidays without breaking the bank. Learn how to roll your own beeswax candles, make handmade scented gift soaps, build a wooden train, create a candy house and more!

Enjoy live, family-friendly entertainment and tasty sandwiches or piping hot chili from our Holiday Café.

37th annual San Francisco Middle School Science Fair

Come by the Randall Museum between February 26 through March 8 to view the 37th annual San Francisco Middle School Science Fair. Over 200 students from nearly thirty San Francisco public, private and parochial schools will submit projects to the Randall Museum for this unique science competition. Awards will be displayed on projects on Saturday, March 2.
